Official blazon

Shield: Per fess dancetty of two enhanced Celeste and Azure, a four-bastioned fort, axis crosswise, Gules (Crimson) fimbriated Or, overall in saltire a hammer of the like and lightning bolt Argent.
Crest: That for the regimetns and separate battalions of the Maryland Army National Guard: On awreath of the colors, Or and Celeste, a cross bottony per cross quarterly Gules and Argent.
Motto: Maintain for freedom.

Distinctive Unit Insignia, Description: A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a light blue field behind two blue mountain peaks all enclosed by a crimson circular belt folded at top, buckled at bottom, inscribed "MAINTAIN" at left, "FOR" at top, and "FREEDOM" at right in gold letters; overall a crimson four-bastioned fort at one point up superimposed by a gold hammer and white lightning bold crossed diagonally.

Origin/meaning

The Fort represent fort Frederick, an historic stonghold important in the military past of Maryland. The two peaks are symbolic of the mountains of Maryland, and indicates the Home of the Battalion. The Hammer symbolises military technology and maintenace of Weapon Systems. The Lightning bolt alludes to rapid respons to operational requirements, including mobilization for State and Federal emergency duties.

The Coat of Arms and Distinctive Unit Insignia was both approved on 5 July 1988 for the 729th Maintenance Battalion. They was redesignated for the 729th Support Battalion on 28 September 1992.
