Origin/meaning
The gold boot with blue spur symbolizes the unit’s activation at Leghorn and continuous service in Italy since 1960. The cross, suggested by the civic arms of Pisa as well as the shoulder sleeve insignia of the 8th Logistical Command, refers to the unit’s location between the cities of Pisa (site of an airfield) and Leghorn (a seaport) and the pointers allude to the scope of the unit’s activities in the Mediterranean area. The shape of the scroll denotes the unit’s numerical designation. The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 8th Logistical Command on 23 July 1969. It was redesignated for the 8th Support Group on 16 March 1976.
