Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on July 24, 1992.

The arms are a combination of the arms of historical territories that now form part of the district. The first quarter shows the arms of the county Ballenstedt, the eagle of Brandenburg (to which the county belonged since 1650), the bear of Bernburg and the divided shield of Halberstadt.
The escutcheon is the arms of the county Aschersleben.
