Origin/meaning

The arms of the town show two crossed keys. The arms were first used on the 16^th century town seal and are the symbol of St. Peter, the local patron saint.

Another, 18^th century, seal showed a rather different composition; a bridge over some wells, on which an eagle is placed, which is bending over like taking the keys from the water. The bridge may be canting (Most=bridge) and the eagle may be the Prussian eagle, as the town at the time belonged to Prussia. Later seals show the historical composition again.
