Origin/meaning

The town is named for Henry Somerset, 2nd Duke of Beaufort, who became one of Carolina's Lords Proprietor around 1709. The town arms show the arms of Henry Somerset , but the two lower quarters have been replaced by roses and fish. Heraldic Bibliography:
