Origin/meaning

The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the town, dating from 1551. The arms show in the right half a bear's claw, derived from the arms of the Counts of Hoya. The left half showed the arms of the local Counts of Bruchhausen. The arms were continued by the new municipality Bruchhausen-Vilsen
