Origin/meaning

The arms show a rose surrounded by hops. The hops refer to the importance in medieval times of the cultivation of hops around the city. Already in the 13^th century the area was known for its hops. In the 18^th century the town became known for the cultivation of roses, hence the rose in the centre of the arms.
