CHRISTIAN COUNTY

Origin/meaning

Introduced in 2007.

Christian County was formed March 8, 1859 from portions of Greene, Taney and Webster counties.

The seal’s central element is the county courthouse, built in 1920, which is still in use today.

Populi suprema, a shortened version of the state motto, Salus populi suprema lex esto, appears at the bottom of the seal’s inner circle. The full motto is Latin for “let the welfare of the people be the supreme law.”

Below that are the Roman numerals MDCCCLIX signifying the year the county became the 113th of Missouri’s 114 counties.
