English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on July 16, 1929.
The arms show the arms of the four main rulers in the district. The first quarter shows the Imperial eagle as a large part of the district was directly ruled by the emperors in the 12th and 13th century. The second quarter shows the lion of the Pfalz, as the Counts of the Pfalz ruled a large part of the district from their castle in Cochem. The third quarter shows the arms of the diocese and State of Trier, that ruled for 500 years over the Wetsern part of the district. The fourth quarter is divided in the Prussian colours, as the whole district was Prussian from 1803-1945.
