Origin/meaning

The County Rochefort was a small county located in the present-day Belgian Province Namur, around the city of Rochefort within the Holy Roman Empire. It existed as an independent territory from the 12^th century until 1793 when it was incorporated in the French Empire.

The arms are those of the 12^th century Montaigu family, who ruled as counts until 1147.
