Origin/meaning

The Waves symbolises the namegiving River. The green background refers to the forests and recreational areas of the Valley. The Beaver represents the fur-trader and civic official Nicolas Gatineau or Gastineau. He drowned in the River about 1683 when on a fur-trading expedition,the River which then was knownas Riviere du Nord then began to be called after him. The Motto translates as "In this ship lies power"
