Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 22, 1970.

The village of Helchteren belonged to the Sint Truiden Abbey from the late 13th until the late 18^th century. The seals of the village, known since the 16^th century) show the patron saint of the Abbey, Saint Trudo. The arms thus are based on the seal.
