Origin/meaning
The outline of the Archdiocese of Pontianak is shown as the main charge, partially covered by the traditional Daya shield. The horizontal line in the centre represehts the equator, which passes directly through Pontianak City. The Monument of the Equator which which stands in Pontianak is pictured at the bottom of the shield, flanked by two traditional Daya Mandau swords.
The whole shield which represents with these symbols the population of Kalimantan Barat, is connected with the motto of the Archbishop, AMOR NON AMATUR. This quotation is taken from St. Francis of Assisi, and summariszes his reflection that : "Although God loves this world so much, the world itself does not return God's love by loving Him". This motto expresses the hope that in the future many more people in the Archdiocese will come to awareness of God's love.
