The arms were officially granted on December 4, 1969 and changed on November 14, 1988.

The man is a so-called Hopstener Tödden, a typical tradesman from the area, who generally travelled and traded in the Netherlands.

The new arms combine the man from the previous arms, with the grouse from the arms of Halverde and the steps from Schale.
