HVALER
Province: Viken (until 2020 Østfold)
Norwegian |
I blått en sølv båt med mast og stag. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on December 9, 1983.
The local council applied for a boat in its arms, as this island community has been dependent on boats for all its history. Fisheries and sailing have been the main economic activities for many centuries. To symbolise the long history, a 13th century type ship was chosen.
Literature: Norwegian Municipal Network and Norske Kommunevåpen, Kommunalforlaget, 1987.
