The arms were officially granted in 1951 (?)
The arms combine in chief elements of the the arms of the three cities Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen with the traditional chess-board symbol of exchequer and accountancy, golden coins and the St. Andrews cross of Scotland.
