Origin/meaning

Lake Urkis, from which the name of the area is derived, and its surroundings are an ornithological reserve. The sprig depicted in the coat of arms reflects the natural richness of the area. The tincture of the coat of arms is purpure. It is rare in contemporary Lithuanian heraldry. This tincture was intended to emphasise that Inturkė and its surrounding lands belonged to the Grand Duke of Lithuania, and that the Queen of Poland and the Grand Duchess of Lithuania, Bona Sforca, founded the church in Inturkė.
