Dutch	(1982) Van rood met een Lam Gods van zilver, het omziende hoofd omgeven met stralenkrans van goud, houdende een kruisstaf van goud waaraan een wapperende wimpel van zilver beladen met een kruis van rood; in het schildhoofd vergezeld van twee diagonaalsgewijs gekruiste pauselijke sleutels, de ene van zilver wijst met zijn baard naar de linkerbovenhoek van het schild, de andere van goud ligt over de eerste en wijst met zijn baard naar de rechterbovenhoek. Achter het schild uitkomend een paalsgewijs geplaatst enkelarmig bisschopskruis van goud versierd met edelstenen afwisselend van groen en rood. Daarboven de bisschopshoed van groen, gevoerd van rood met aan weerszijden afhangende koorden met zes kwasten van groen. Onder het schild op een banderol van rood de wapenspreuk van zilver: 'Parate viam Domini'.

Origin/meaning

The Papal Keys alludes to the fact that Bishop Gijsen was consecrated Bishop in Rome by Pope Paul VI and the then Archbishop of Utrecht Cardinal Alfrink. The Lamb symbolises the Baptismal Patron of the Bishop, St John the Baptist.

The mottoes "Bereidt de weg des Heren" and "Parate viam Domine" translate as "Prepare the Way of the Lord".
