Origin/meaning
The arms show a quartered shield with the arms of the (arch)diocese and the personal arms of the bishop.
The eagle in the personal arms alludes to St John the Evangelist, and symbolises the impact the gospel of St John had on the faith experience of the bishop. The grape leaves refer to the word of Jesus "I am the true vine".
The motto translates as "The Truth will set you free" and is taken from the Gospel of St John.
