LEJASCIEMS PARISH
Region: Vidzeme
Municipality: Gulbene
Latvian |
|
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on May 12, 2015.
The village (former town) of Lejasciems was established in 1867 at the confluence of Gauja and its tributary Tirza. These two rivers served as important waterways and Lejasciems developed as a trade centre.
The blue strip in the arms symbolizes the Gauja river, but the gold means the fields on its banks.
The town received arms on October 21, 1938.
The parish of Lejasciems has a much larger area (337,8 sq. kms) than the former town had. For all that, the symbolism of the arms remains and is even more pronounced, because the town was situated on the left bank of the Gauja, but the parish occupies both banks (the left and the right).
