Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on March 23, 1935.

The arms with a chevron are first mentioned on a map of the area around Brugge (Vrije van Brugge) from the 17^th century. The chevron appears in a free-quarter of the arms mentioned for Moere. The rest of the arms showed a black field with a silver chief. These arms were already mentioned in the Gelre roll of arms from the late 14^th century. The council applied in 1935 only for the free quarter, not the whole arms of the Lords of Moere.
