History: The Squadron was formed at RAF Station Leuchars, Scotland in August 1941.

Motto: Whakatangata kia kaha = Quit ye like men be strong.

Origin/meaning

Chosen by the Squadron by reason of the fact that the kiwi is symbolic of New Zealand and the torpedo indicates the Squadron's function. The badge was approved in February 1943.
