History: First formed in 1933 at Royal Naval Air Station Netheravon, Wiltshire as a Fleet Fighter Squadron with Hawker Siddley Osprey Aircraft. Disbanded in 1937 and reformed 1945 and transfered to the Royal Canadian Navy in 1948.

Origin/meaning
The Wasp symbolises the Rear gunner of the Hawker Siddley Osprey which fired astern. The Latin Motto translates as "Beware my sting". The badge was approved on 8 April 1937.
