Origin/meaning

The oldest known seal of Ober-Roden dates from 1706 and shows the figure of Justice. When the town council applied for arms in the 1950s, arms with the balance and sword of Justice were proposed in 1954 (see below).

Those arms were never adopted, and in 1963 the above arms were granted. These arms show the sword of St. Nazarius, the patron saint of the village. The wall symbolises the fact that in 1350 the village was freed, i.e. it received its own court. The chevron is taken from the arms of the Counts of Hanau, who ruled and owned the area.
