Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1976.

The owl (Eule) is used as a canting symbol for Oberaula. The name is derived from the medieval Ovilaha, which can be translated as the 'place near the owls-water'.

The stars refer to the 6 former municipalities that merged in the 1970s. The base refers to the Knüll hills in the municipality, and the oak leaf is taken from the logo from the former Kurhessen Tourist service and refers to the nature in the area.
