English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on April 20, 1937.
The village was in medieval times a 'free-village' (Freiheit) and thus had its own court of justice. This is symbolised by the sword. The village was also situated on the pilgrim;s road to Santiago de Compostela, hence the scallop, the symbol of the pilgrims.
The lower half shows the arms of the [{State of Köln]], to which the area historically belonged.
