Above the shield is placed an Helm suitable to the Incorporation (videlicet:- a Sallet Proper lined Gules) with a Mantling Gules doubled Or, and on a Wreath of the Liveries is set for Crest two banners saltirewise on poles Gules, cords and tassels Or, the dexter banner Azure a saltire Argent the sinister banner tierced per fess Gules, sable and Gules a lion rampant Or and in an Escroll over the same this Motto 'Castellum Est Urbs'. |}

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1993.

The design incorporates the arms of both the City of Edinburgh and Scottish Command, now known as Army Headquarters Scotland, and, of course the Saltire.

The motto gives some indication of the relationship of the Castle to the City in that the translation literally means 'The Castle is the City'
