Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on March 29, 1935 and changed after the merger with Amt Halver and Hülscheid.
The water-mill wheel is derived from Schalksmühle (Mühle, or mill, making it a canting symbol). The chequered bar is derived from the arms of the Counts of the Mark, as the area historically belonged to the County of Mark.
The new arms are based on the old arms of Schalksmühle and the ivy (Hüls) for Hülscheid.
