Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 12, 1792 and re-granted on June 19, 2002.

  The arms in 1792

The arms should refer to growth of the town (laurel) and justice for citizens (sword).

In early 20^th century another variant was used due to the inexact description of historian Jan Obst (the original was not available at the time): without base, with a laurel branch instead of a tree, and with counterchanged positions of the laurel and sword.
