The Lordship was situated in the current state of [[Mecklenburg-Vorpommern]] around the village of Werle. It was ruled by a branch of the House of Mecklenbrug. In 1436 it came to [[Mecklenburg-Schwerin]]. The arms show the bull's head of Mecklenburg, but placed diagonally, which was part of the arms of Mecklenburg-Schwerin until 1918.
