Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on March 15, 1994.

The striped lion is the lion of the Counts of Thüringen, who ruled the Rothenburg and Kyffahusen castles in the municipality until the 14^th century. They were succeeded by the Counts (later Princes) of Schwarzburg, from whose arms the golden lion is derived. The lions hold a canting stone (Stein=stone). The base is also a canting element, the chevron symbolises a valley (from Tal=valley).
