English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on February 27, 1975.
The blue wave symbolises the moors and the many channels in the area dug after the moors were cultivated. The eagle is taken from the arms of Make von Lengen, mother of Focko Ukena, one of the most important medieval nobles in the Ostfriesland region. The gate is the Ostertor in Remels, dating from the 14th century. The two stars are taken from the chain of the local council of Uplengen from 1520.
