Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on April 16, 2020.
The silver shield refers to the veneration of Jesus da Boa Morte, whose sanctuary is the place of pilgrimage on Ascension Thursday, the date of the municipal holiday, as well as to Nossa Senhora da Conceição de Alcamé.
The campino vest represents the campino, the Festivities of the Red Vest and the lezíria. The campinos, rural workers of the lezírias, are one of the most identifying icons of Vila Franca. Their main functions are to drive wild cattle and their name “campinos” originates in the campinas, that is, in the lezirias (landscape around the town).
The wheat ears represent the soil and its agricultural wealth with the production of cereals, in particular that of wheat, in which it is fertile and abundant.
The wavy base represents the Tagus River and the fishing activity, which was an important source of livelihood for the community. The river divides the parish into two distinct parts, the city and the lezíria.
