Belgian Coffee Hag Albums

Other Material

As for the other countries were the albums were issued, one could obtain the stamps by collecting coupons added to each package of Coffee Hag or Ka-Aba chocolate drink. Coupons could also sometimes be obtained from adverting material, which was either published in journals, or in booklets and available through shops.

Coupons could then be send to the company and in return the stamps, or the albums, were send. One could order the stamps by number, by filling out a special form. If one had double stamps these could be returned and exchanged for missing stamps using the same form.

Unique for the Belgian series is that complete albums could be obtained for a modest fee by schools, libraries and similar. They only needed to apply officially and one set of albums was send. This I have never seen in other countries.

The file ruilvel.pdf shows a collecting form. This particular form was issued probably around 1938/9 when many of the albums and stamps were no longer offered and the prices were changed. All these changes are marked on the form, with the unavailable material crossed out and prices and addresses changed. The texts is in French and Dutch.

The collecting seems to have been popular, as for quite some time (around 1938) first the Dutch and later also the French covers for the albums were sold out. Collectors who ordered the albums received the following letter :
