Distinctive Unit Insignia, Description: A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in heigth overall consisting of a shield blazoned:Azure a pale Or and per chevron embattled Gules, in chief a millrind Vert and in base a fountain. Attached below and to the sides of the shield a Blue scroll inscribed "WE ARE PROUD TO SUPPORT" in Gold letters. |
Origin/meaning
The Embattled chevron symbolises the historic El Morro Fortress built in 1584 by the Spaniards to protect the City of San Juan. The Fountain alludes to the waters of San Juan Bay. The Millrind symbolises the Support function.
The Arms were approved on 9 December 1969 and the Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 19 November 1970.
