Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on July 17, 1970.
The arms are based on the seal of the historical Amt Karrharde, known since 1359. The meaning of the trees is not known, but in the arms from 1970 they also indicate the 5 former Ämter that merged in 1966 to for the new Amt Karrharde.
The base shows a wicker fence, used to protect the area from the North Sea and which also slowly caused the land to expand, as the fences collected the sands, thereby enlarging the land. The black colour of the base symbolises the swamps that used to be common in the area.
To the Amt Karrharde belonged:
- Achtrup (1968 Büllsbüll; 1974 Lütjenhorn)
- Bramstedtlund
- Enge-Sande (1974 Enge, Engerheide, Knorburg, Sande, Schardebüll, Soholm)
- Karlum
- Klixbüll
- Ladelund (1970 Boverstedt)
- Sprakebüll
- Stadum (1974 Holzacker)
- Tinningstedt
- Westre
Until 1970 the following municipalities also belonged to the Amt:
