Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on March 28, 1966, but the arms were first granted in the middle of the 15^th century.

In 1469 it was mentioned that the city used a coat of arms. On March 10, 1514 Emperor Maximilian I confirmed the arms as given by his father.
The arms as described already showed an chamois on three black ills and with a small tree. The arms with mountains, chamois and the tree (officially an aspen tree) are symbolising the surroundings of Bad Ischl, with its many forests and wildlife.
