English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially adopted on June 2, 1930.
The griffin (Greif) is a canting element and have been used for the Amt Greifensee since the 15th century. It was first documented in the yearbook of 1473, and also in the Edlibach Chronicle of 1485 (for the castle and town of Greifensee).
The colours differed during the centuries. In 1506 it is shown a golden griffin in a red field. A silver griffin on a green field is still mentioned in 1513. From the 17th century onwards the arms are shown uniformly in the form that is now valid.
