Küsnacht (Zürich)
Country : Switzerland Canton : Zürich |
German | In Rot ein übereckgestelltes, quadratisches goldenes Kissen mit Eckquasten. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially adopted in 1933.
The arms are canting, showing a pillow (Kissen in current German, küssin in old German).
The town originally use arms with the patron saint, St. George slaying a dragon.
After the Reformation the arms were changed and probably based on the arms of the village of Küssnacht. Both villages were in medieval times owned by the same family. The first time a pillow is used for Küsnacht is in 1497 by Andreas Gubelmann, who was then head of the Johanniterhaus Küsnacht.
As village arms the pillow appears in 1544, 1560 and 1574 with the cushions and tassels golden, only in the 19th century they were often depicted in silver.
