MATTSEE
State : Salzburg
District : Salzburg-Umgebung
German | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on July 4, 1935.
The burning sword in the pale is the symbol of St. Matthew, patron saint of the local convent, the origin of the village. It is also a canting element (Mattsee from lake of Matthew). The two other elements, described as Spiessträger, or wooden planks to hold a series of spits in a grill, are derived from the arms of the Lords of Haunsperg, of which a branch named itself Von Mattsee.
