Niederwil (Aargau)
NIEDERWIL
Canton : Aargau
Official blazon
Durch rot-weiss geschachteten Balken geteilt von Rot mit zwei weissen Schrägbalken und von Grün mit weissem Fluss.
Origin/meaning
The arms were adopted in 1953.
The upper half shows the arms of the Lords of Wil. The lower half symbolises the Nesselnbach stream in the municipality. The bar is derived from the chequered bend in the arms of the Cistercian monastery in Gnadenthal, which had many possessions in the area.
In 1914 Merz proposed the use of the arms of the Lords of Wil only, as these arms were also used for the village in a roll of arms of the State Archives in Bern.
