English | Distinctive Unit Insignia. Description: A silver color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02cm) in height overall consisting of a red Greek cross bearing a silver moonstone gem at its center and surmounting a stylized silver arrowhead with point up, all on a maroon area and all enclosed by a silver scroll around base reversed at the lateral arms of the cross and terminated at the point of the stylized arrowhead, and inscribed around base "DEDICATED DENTAL SERVICE," in black enamel. |
Origin/meaning
A red cross is emblematic of aid and assistance. The pearl-like white of a moonstone gem alludes to dentistry; and together they symbolize the overall DENTAC mission and capabilities. The colors maroon and white (silver) represent the Army Medical Department. The arrowhead, symbolic of missile and space technology, the moonstone and the colors scarlet and white refer to the unit's home, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
The Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 14 May 1980.
