Distinctive Unit Insignia. Description: A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height, between two green laurel branches a red shield bordered gold charged with a white star in base, overall in upper center two crossed swords with white blades and pommels and brown grips and at top, halfway on the shield, a white Roman helmet with red crest, all in front of an arc of rays.
Origin/meaning
Red, white and green are the colors of the National Flag of Italy; red and gold are the colors of the coat of arm of Naples. The swords, crossed over the shield to indicate strength through support, combined with the Roman helmet, indicate military preparedness. The star, a symbol of authority and command, refers to the unit's presence and peace keeping mission. The golden rays and wreath of laurel symbolize high ideals, victory and mission accomplishment.
The Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 5 October 1988.
