Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on September 4, 1965.
The municipality used a seal with a steam vessel from around 1900 until the 1950s. This symbolised shipping on the Wörther See lake.
At the same time the local tourist information service used on its publications a shield showing a gate and in the base a lake with a water lily. The gate is the entrance to the Velden Castle (1603), the late the Wörther See. In the 1930s three swallows were added in the upper left corner, see image below.
The municipality started to use this design as official arms already in 1940 (see below). The gate was also used as part of the armorial logo of the Castle Velden Hotel.
It was thus logical that the municipality applied for the gate (and lake/waterlily) as official arms as early as 1953. Several designs were made, but it took until 1963 (!) before the arms were finally granted.
The arms were confirmed after the mergers from 1973.
