Origin/meaning
The arms show a red lion, which is the historical arms of the city of Willisau and which was used by the former municipalities Willisau-Land and Willisau-Stadt. The lion appears as a small shield under the image of St. Peter (the patron saint) on the old seal of the city and on the seal of the Landvogtei Willisau from around 1400. The lion is the arms of the Habsburg family, as the city was a possession of the Habsburg dynasty in the 13th and 14th centuries. The arms thus never changed since.
